Black Day observed by the Meghalaya College Teachers Association.
In response to the call of the All India Federation of University and College Teachers' Organisation (AIFUCTO) the Meghalaya College Teachers' Association (MCTA) observed the nation-wide "Black Day" protest on Tuesday. As part of the Black Day protest programme, college teachers under the banner of MCTA wore black badges and held meeting at their colleges units which however did not affect normal classes. All the units of MCTA have also affirmed to support and co-operate with MCTA and the apex body in the other programmes in future too. It may be pointed that this protest is called against the inordinate delay in the publication and implementation of the 7th UGC Pay Review Committee and other issues which is pending before the central cabinet. The AIFUCTO has written to the Prime Minister for his intervention in this crisis and at the same time it has also requested all the state governments including Meghalaya to take up the matter with the Central Government and hold discussions to resolve the present impasse in the interest of teachers and higher education.
