A delegation of the Meghalaya College Teachers' Association led by the President Dr.(Ms)
B.H. Buam met the Hon'ble Education Minister, Shri. L. H. Rymbui on the 5th of April, 2018
to discuss on various issues pertaining to Education in general and Higher Education in
particular. Appreciating the governments' commitment towards framing the education
policy of the state in a time bound manner, the Association requested the Minister to look
into the issues brought before him by the Association. The delegation had a threadbare
discussion with the Minister on issues such as pay revision matters of the college teacher's,
the need for formulation of regulations for higher education and private colleges, need for
revamping the service rules of college teacher's from the existing Assam Aided College
Employees Rules 1960 and other issues so as to ensure that equity and quality of higher
education is achieved. During the discussion the Minister looked forward to an open
communication which he hoped would bring about a healthy change. Talking of changes
taking place in education in the rural areas the Minister apprised the delegation of the
implementation of the Community College Scheme. He asserted that the coming of the
community colleges which is in the pipeline is a right step in this direction especially for
rural based colleges. The Minister assured the delegation to look into the various issues
and stressed on the need for an open channel of communication to bring forth the change
and development in the education sector.
